Suicide
and researchers
Written By: Riaz Hussain
A male or female has committed suicide... it
made heading in newspapers, social media and electronic media … researchers are
preparing their questioners to go to the bereaved families to ask the questions
that why the person has committed
suicide?
If parents, siblings,
friends and other family members and relative knew and were aware of the victim’s
problems and could answer the questions of researcher, wouldn’t they stop
her/him from taking life??
OR if couldn’t stop for one or other reason:
Can any father or brother is fair enough to tell the
truth that their daughter/sister had love affair or physical relations with a
boy and upon prohibiting and rebuking her she committed suicide?
Can her
family members tell the truth that her parents wanted her to marry where she
didn’t wish?
Do the
friends tell the truth that they knew about the problems of the victim?
Do parents or family members have moral courage to
tell the truth that they rebuked, threatened and even forced their child
out for being failed or getting a third division in exam?
Can a husband have the moral courage to tell the
truth that he used to torture his wife and have affairs with other women?
Don’t the in laws feel embarrassed to confess that
they had been torturing the daughter in law for not bringing their demanded/
expected dowry as the other neighbor’s daughter in law had filled the home with
gold and silver?
Don’t the parents and siblings or sisters in laws
feel guilty and shame to tell the truth that they had taunted, rebuked, humiliated and had not
allow the suicide victim to stay at home
when she had left her husband and was
seeking asylum at parents home?
Certainly not!!
If above all involved in the crime knew and were
aware of the victim’s problems and could answer the questions of researcher or were
fair and had courage, wouldn’t they stop her/him from taking life??
If these all questions of a researcher are mostly
not answered, half answered or even unanswered, and then what is the
authenticity of the research?? .. and even if questioned are answered, then how
can a single researcher can analyze these answers who is an expert only in his
own field and do not have expertise in all
fields of research/life like teaching,
religion, psychology, social issues …
Yes, this can
be an article for a news paper, research paper for a magazine or journal or a
thesis for earning a university degree but cannot save life or give a re birth
to the suicide victim?? The victim is the best person to answer all the
questions but he/she has already buried the mysteries with him/herself.
Most embarrassing is the situation when after such
researches are finalized, published and made stories in the media, it is
revealed that the case was honor killing but nor t a suicide!!
Yes, we can research on the one s who are still
alive and going to commit suicide or those who have miraculously escaped any
suicide attempt and most importantly we may save a life or many if we do not
ignore a human who is frustrate, indifferent towards life, feeling strange having
or any symptoms which shows that he/ she is passing through a difficult stage
of life and we have many of such cases which we ignore intentionally or un intentionally.
This is the disease fatal than cancers that can only be cures at its initial stages.
This research can better be initiated at home:
parents should not ignore any symptom of strange behavior of their kids,
siblings should inform the parents, and friends must cooperate with families
and start investigating the causes of the frustrations.
Parents should involve teachers, doctors, religious
scholars , psychiatrist, research experts and without bringing into the knowledge of the victim
start investigating the matter and most importantly spend time with him /her
for months and even years otherwise a questionnaire
or an interrogation can be highly risky if the victim knows that he she is
being observed.
