Generation gap, Permanent job craze and teaching
standard

A generation gap or generational gap is a difference
of opinions between one generation and another regarding beliefs, politics, or
values. In today's usage, "generation gap" often refers to a perceived
gap between younger people and their parents or grandparents.
This
generation gap not only affects relations and values but the teaching and
learning are also vulnerable to this problem. There has always been a problem
with teachers being from a different generation to their pupils, particularly
older educators. But the dominance of digital technology has spread that
generation gap even wider, as young people become familiar with mobile digital
devices, games and social media that didn’t exist when their teachers were
growing up. Teachers now face pupils using devices and online systems that they
don’t use themselves, and don’t really understand either. The generation gap is
more prevalent than ever.
One of the main problems of our education system is
negligence of primary education where most of the teachers are older than 50
and newly appointed and more competent teachers prefer to teach at secondary
and higher secondary levels just to improve the board results. This negative
approach has badly affected our primary education which ultimately spoils whole
education system. In order to resolve this problem the maximum age limit for
new recruitments should be 20-25 and retirement age must be 45. This will
bridge the generation gap between teachers and pupils other wise 50-60 years
old teachers how much competent they are, cannot meet the requirements of
modern child who has different thinking, problems ,needs and demands.
Secondly, the craze of permanent govt job has ruined
the careers of many of competent youngsters who are highly qualified and
competent, but when they join schools as teachers they are offered 14-16 scales
with 20- 30 thousand salary a month. After spending 16 -18 years and a huge
amount in education, is 20-30 thousand enough to survive in this modern world?
Few of them
argue that they have permanent job and will get increments and most importantly
pension at the age of 60. Should they suffer themselves and their families in
hope of increment and pension at age 60 when one does not require money to
spent and even his/her children finish their education waiting for pension of
their parents. Rather one needs money from age 20-45 for personal and family
life. So the adhoc jobs with double salary at early ages are much better than
permanent job of BPS which only is an old age benefit.
So, all the
school teachers who are above 45 must be given golden handshake with all their
privileges and new, young and talented teachers must be recruited on contract
basis with basic salary minimum 50-60 thousand. These teachers should be
trained and appointed to teach at primary levels. If they perform well in their
first academic year, their contract should be extended with bonuses and the
ones who do not show better performance would be terminated and given opportunities
to many young and talented unemployed.
If one needs
OLB, he /she can save or avail insurance policies. This policy of contract will
create an environment of competition and teachers will work harder for
increments, bonuses and to secure next contract otherwise a satisfaction of
permanent job makes teachers lazy in their work ultimately results in poor
performance of students.
